Sometimes too much curry-munching mixed with Forrest Gump gets you journalling lessons of life that come from nowhere. It was March 2009. I just returned home from a 2 1/2 month trip abroad to Europe, UK and Japan. I was inspired, happy, hungry and …. well, broke.
With 2 weeks before my new job commenced, and another week before my first pay cheque … I decided to cook curry in bulk to live off of. After all, cooking a meal just for one can be costly. With curry, I could get all the nutrition I needed, and I could freeze it to last a week. And of course, it was cheap!
So between crying with the onions and suppressing my hunger, came this piece 🙂
Life is Like a Curry
Life lived full is like a curry,
A sequence of events that we all try to hurry.
The pepper, chilli and turmeric,
We attempt to make a meal that is fully slick.
As one would toil about in duties of a week.
A chef is in the kitchen, boiling spices with the leek.
Alone, each spice may taste like sand.
Sometimes unpleasant, sometimes bland.
But when chef starts spinning his stirring spoon,
A seductive smell reaches our senses very soon.
With a breath and sight of the dish to come,
We eat it till our belly’s hum.
