The Short Form…
“For over 20 years of my life, many people were convinced that I was disabled when it came to the written word. But deep inside I knew I wasn’t.
I knew that just like a diamond, a substance of eternity needs to be forged under immense pressure of the times.
So I spent early mornings, late evenings and in my sleep, tapping away on my keyboard for 3 years…
…so much that the metallic paint on my laptop had faded from the sweat off my palms.
Today – writing has become my gift. My words are my wealth, and if you choose to work with me, they can be your source of income too.” – Jon Low
The Longer Form…
Disability Becomes My Gift
As a migrant from Malaysia, the English language was something I had always struggled with. From the day I set foot in Sydney, Australia…I was downright made to believe I was never going to amount to much with the English language.
So much that I ended up mastering sciences and mathematics. And whilst a part of me knew that I had something special to offer in the way of words, I lived 22 years of my life believing I was “literally” disabled.
English and the Written Word to Me, Was like Forrest Gump’s Leg Braces!
Hard to believe huh? But if I get you to speak to my school teachers, early consulting colleagues, mentors, family and friends… you’d be amazed.
The turning point for me? I got slammed so hard about my communication when I was working in the engineering consulting world that I got down and dirty with practicing it to “fill the gap”…
I started writing for article directories, selling affiliate products online, writing sales copy, blogging on philosophy and writing compulsively for about 3 years straight!
Day and night without fail, to the extent that I also found my excuse to ditch Friday night drinks like a plague!
And one day, someone decided to pay me to write copy for their website…and since then, I haven’t looked back.

Insecurity Is a Major Skill Developer
At an early age of 12, I was always trying to prove myself because of my lack of achievement when it came to my studies. And until I underwent some self-help therapy, I spent about 20 years of my life caught in this cycle of achievement.
You can relate to this can’t you?
- Top 1.1% in the state for my High School exams – Done
- First Class Honors in Commerce/Engineering – Done
- Black Belt in Taekwondo – Done
- High Achiever in Management Consulting – Done
- Award Winner in Project Management – Done
And having chased the elusive dream of “being good enough”, I always ended feeling quite the opposite…
“I’m not quite good enough!”
While I no longer chase the shadow of my insecurity, I honor my past because if it wasn’t for that, I wouldn’t have a ridiculously high speed information processing ability which allows me to work both deeply and swiftly with all my clients.

People’s Gifts are Ninjas
As a writer and trainer in the space of human potential and business performance, I have had to help thought leaders, business professionals and coaches to uncover what makes them so unique, and to communicate that across all their marketing touch-points.
Interesting fact – Every single one of them was unconscious to the unique gifts they brought to the table. It was glaringly obvious when I interviewed and consulted them!
It was Like Their Gifts were Hiding Behind Their Eyes!
You see, your genius and uniqueness comes so naturally to you, that you can’t even comprehend why no one else would see it the way you do. In fact, it comes so easily to you, that you almost discount it as being your differentiator in the market!
And because of that, when people compliment you for your strengths, you’ll generally respond with a…
“Nah! Anyone can do that!”
Question – What do most people find amazing about you that you don’t take credit for?
Heart to Heart Is the Only Start!
Having worked and coached since the age of 18, I have always been curious as to what drives people to perform at what they do, and more importantly, what truly holds them back.
From teaching high school students, university students, and working with colleagues in a consultancy setting, I’ve come to realize that what truly holds people back is nothing to do with intellect…
What Holds People Back Is Nested in Unresolved Emotions in their Personal Lives!
When I truly got this, I had the biggest “ah hah” moment in my life. Because I knew this for sure – If I was to ever cause useful change in someone else’s life…I was going to have to build deep levels of trust with people.
Trust is the Conduit for The Most Powerful Change Work
And to build trust, I had to become someone who not only trusted themselves, but could connect with the hearts of others, free of judgment.
And for over 10 years I have consistently worked to cultivate the heart, and to truly explore the hearts of others and appreciate them whole. Each day of progress brought new people to me, all of which helped me extract the wisdom that fuels performance in all areas of life…
“Excellence is a product of trust, integrity, and powerful intention, less so intellect.
True genius is actually nested in the heart, whilst simply being expressed in the head”
Leadership from Behind the Shadows
What I’m about to share with you in this final section I am most humbled for. And as I write I get teary thinking of the simple beautiful thread that strings life together so powerfully.
In the early years of my life, I had faced many struggles in my own life:
- Clearing $80,000 worth of debt during my teens
- The life threatening hospitalization of my mother and brother
- The rapid decline of my father’s life force thanks to cancer
The hopelessness, the stress and the heart-ache…
The Feeling of Being Powerless to Make A Change
And while being caught up in the habit of taking action to try change my external surroundings I came to realize that I was merely dancing with shadows. What I witness in my life, are the side effects of how I felt about life itself.
The struggle, the misfortune, and the stress.
I realized that blaming those events, was like swearing at an offensive form of shadow cast on the wall, rather than recognizing that the person playing in front of the flames is responsible (me).
“The quality of how you live your life, will show up in the world!”
True leadership and sustainable change, is about resolving the resistance that we feel within our own lives, so that our very existence is a coolant to the flames of others’ lives.
