So I just returned to Sydney under a week ago, having spent 2.5 months in the Bay Area, San Francisco. Blessed to have no jetlag, I stepped off the plane to crystal clear weather; blue skies, sunshine, and 37 degree C heat (100 degree F). It was special to embrace mum, my partner … and of course, Bondi Beach. Yep … I surfed that day! I couldn’t help it 🙂
Having spent close to 17 hours in the air (thanks to my stopover in New Zealand), I had plenty of time to think about those closest and dearest to me. To anticipate seeing their smile, shaking their hands, giving them hugs, and reminding each other how strong our bond stayed–despite the separaton for some time, and by some distance.
Doing so filled me with joy. To know there are other human beings we can share our precious journey of Life with. Sure, many personal development gurus and sages preach that it mirrors the ways you feel about yourself inside. But that doesn’t sit 100% with me. I still hold true, Life around us, and the people who facilitate the Life around us, have something special to show us. Lessons to offer us. Surprises that are outside our influence. And together, in some mysterious way, these form surprising dances, and we all celebrate together. We simply need to invite it in …
“Sorcerers understand discipline as the capacity to face with serenity odds that are not included in our expectations. For them, discipline is an art: the art of facing infinity without flinching, not because they are strong and tough but because they are filled with awe.”
If there is anything I learnt from my many teachers, and men and women of influence, is that Life wants to expand. It finds conduits; people, things, places, and events–to help facilitate eternal growth. And our Life too expands, as we serve Life in its expansion too. Whether it be in the way we relate to others, or the way we serve Life with our Work.
It is also not a zero sum game. Our well-being spreads to others in our lives too. Not because it leaves us and goes to them. But because it awakens something in them, that Self-sustains. Just like soaking up sunshine doesn’t make the sun dimmer for those around us, our increasing in well-being does not diminish others’ well-being too. As one of my main teachers Carl Buchheit says …
“No harm or help can be given, without consent.”
I take the philosophy of “A win for All” into the Work I do too. In this manner, I realize taking care of my well-being in my Work, is also of service to others too. That is, they walk away feeling more energized. And I walk away feeling more energized too.
Work doesn’t mean it has to be a “draining activity.” If anything, I would like to redefine the term work, as “That which you provide and pledge with effort, that energizes All.” That is to say, what is put out sincerely in support of Life, is returned 10 fold.
When we support Life, we exponentiate. Period.
In the recent years, this has held true for my Life and those I have been of help to. I am incredibly blessed and in gratitude, for the ways I look forward to serve Life. And in return, the way Life mirrors me new friendships, experiences, gifts, and adventures to take. I feel younger today, than I did 10 years ago. Even though I looked 10 years younger than my real age then.
As I continue my path in my discipline of facilitating Personal Change, the more I find myself surrendering my accusations towards Life. Because when we accuse Life, we stay the victim. No exceptions ever. However, when we form an alliance with Life–we succeed in the ways that Life succeeds in expansion. Which is All-ways, and always.
Life is our ally. It is our clients’ ally. A creation-ally secure individual, learns to operate as such.
